Anza Borrego Desert State Park

On Tuesday, March 17, 2009 (St. Patrick's Day) my friend (glider ride) Sharon and I took a day trip to the Anza Borrego State park to take pictures of the wild flowers. Our day started with the purchase of sub sandwiches for lunch (which we ate at Vallecitos Stage park). We found various Cacti, wild flowers and Ocotillo's. The weather was beautiful, and you could smell the Lupin (tall blue flower) everytime we stopped the car to take pictures.

Badlands

Can you imagine crossing the Badlands in the heat of summer, in a stage coach or on foot??

Stage Stop

We stopped at the Vallecitos Stage stop for lunch. Here we also took pictures of the old stage stop, a cemetary and some Barrel cacti. The stage stops were approximately 21 miles apart to give both the horses and drives a rest.

Box Canyon

Our last pictures were taken at Box Canyon. If you look at the pictures closely you can see where the trail of the mail wagons. It is at Box Canyon where the Mormon Batallion "carved" through the rock.
